Sonata for Flute and Piano by Isaac Dorcy is a three-movement sonata that is harmonically daring, built to give the soloist and the accompanist a challenge. This project began from a simple idea, one that was written down over a year prior to the conception of the piece as it is today. After rediscovering this idea, inspiration took over and the idea was expanded into the beginnings of the first movement. The second movement offers different challenges such as extreme lightness and tenderness for the soloist, plenty of enharmonic spellings, and bitonality. The third movement proves itself traditionally difficult, featuring quick, agile solo passages with an unyielding tempo.
