Night On the Waves

"Night On the Waves" is a duet for two reed instruments (Bb Clarinet and either Bass Clarinet or Bassoon) that was written in December of 2023 with two specific performers in mind, Kylie Mitchell and Zoë Johnson. This short reed duet was inspired by the many pieces for low reeds that accompany video games that feature open ocean exploration. With that correlation in mind, I tried to emulate the feeling of drifting on the waves of the ocean at night, while pulling interesting harmonic ideas out of only two voices.
