HUMOR for Alto Sax and Piano is a work written for and premiered by Max Cannon. Tailored to Max's playing, this HUMOR aims to show the full range of the instrument, including quick virtuosic passages, lyrical ballad playing, and improvised cadenza sections. As suggested in the title, the goal in composing this piece was to create music that was funny. I had been fascinated with figuring out what it was that made certain pieces of classical music funny, such as the music of Francis Poulenc or Joseph Haydn. It is my hope that this piece can serve as a helpful addition to the classical saxophone repertoire.
